Church International Ltd, with over 40 years of successful partnerships with SMEs and multinational organisations, was a natural choice for the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) when they sought collaboration on several high-profile projects. Our MD, Brian Fitzgerald, was initially tasked with managing a business-critical project on behalf of the bank and a third party – a US-based multinational technology company. This full-operational insource project was vital for the continued development and management of their digital infrastructure and IT operating systems. With an 18-month timeline for completion, the first priority was to locate and hire a Managing Director. Leveraging his extensive network, Brian swiftly identified and secured a highly qualified candidate for the role.
With the senior appointment in place, Brian collaborated closely with the new MD to build out the team, headhunting and securing 4 Programme Managers and 2 PMOs. This laid the foundation for a robust team, and Brian continued to work alongside them to fill the remaining vacancies, delivering 7 Project Managers and 12 Business Analysts. The project’s complexity then required the appointment of 3 Target Operating Model Project Managers to design a new model, followed by 5 Infrastructure Architects and 8 Infrastructure Engineers to implement it. Impressed by our ability to deliver on such a critical project, RBC engaged Brian to lead the second phase: assembling a top-tier team to facilitate the relocation of the bank’s premises from a 2,000-person capacity office to a new 4,000-person capacity smart building. Additionally, the team was tasked with creating a new data storage centre and upgrading the bank’s systems from Windows 7 to Windows 10. This move provided an opportunity to transition to a cloud-based infrastructure, necessitating the rapid hiring of 9 Infrastructure Engineers/Analysts. The Windows 10 upgrade required further technical expansion, with 10 Technical Business Analysts, 2 Project Managers, and 1 Release Manager added to the team. Additionally, 9 Engineers were recruited to analyse hardware across 9 countries, breaking down solutions into phases and implementing fixes one country at a time. Brian and his team managed these key appointments, ensuring that all hires were smoothly integrated into the business.
The final phase of this 24-month project involved integrating a newly acquired Luxembourg-based business into RBC’s existing infrastructure, which included developing a new data centre on a greenfield site in Luxembourg. This was a highly complex undertaking, requiring a full analysis of local data and migration laws and creating a strategy to move all historical data into RBC’s environment in a compliant manner. Brian was tasked with securing a flexible workforce with the specialised skills and agility needed to work across multiple locations and countries as required. This challenging endeavour demanded an in-depth understanding of both the client’s business and local regulations. Throughout this project, Brian’s access to sensitive areas of the business and his ability to build trust with key stakeholders were critical. Supported by Church International’s 40 years of experience, extensive global network, and our in-house HR, legal, and compliance teams, Brian successfully delivered on every requirement on time. Our proven track record of handling complex projects with precision and reliability has made us a trusted partner for RBC. At Church International, we engage with our clients as equals, listening and adapting our approach to meet their unique needs. We implement solutions that work, and most importantly, we become a trusted extension of their business.
